COMMUNITY WELFARE

  Welfare Expenditue in 2008-09  was Rs 211.48 Crores for  medical,education,community development,township repair(water  supply,road,bridge),sports,environment for the community.

FROM COALFIELDS TO SPORTFIELDS - A HELPING HAND IN COMMUNITY WELFARE

Since SECL firmly believes that it is a part of the larger community of the region where it operates, we not only owe them, but it is our duty to take into account the cultural ethos, socioeconomic environment and regional development of the community in its operational planning. For this purpose the Company has undertaken inter alia,the following activities :-

Community development expenditure  for 2008-09 was Rs 9.38 crores.

• Development of Roads and Bridges and assistance to State Government for such developments

  • Since the formation of SECL, considerable improvement in road communication in the coalfields area has been ensured. 

  • Total expenditure in 2008-09  for township repairs,Roads Water supply was rs.94.21 crores.

   

  
  

• Drinking water supply to the community

  • Besides a large Integrated Water Supply Scheme in the water-starved Chirimiri Area, large number of hand pumps have been installed in the villages and in some cases pipelines have been extended.
    

• Education

  • Funds for extra class rooms, laboratories, etc. have been granted to a number of schools and educational institutions by the company. Rs 15 crores  have been spent in this head in 2008-09.
    

• Games and Sports

  • Besides proposing to construct a large state-of-art stadium at Bilaspur, the Company has been supporting a large number of sports activities. Company’s sportspersons have excelled in Industry-level and National-level sports meets.In 2008-09 total expenditure was Rs.2.50 crores.
    

• Development of Regional Culture

  • Every year, the Company holds a "Chhattisgarh Lokotsav" participated by more than 200 folk artists of Chhattisgarh.

• Public Health and Social Service

  • The Company organises large number of camps for Eye/Ear, Family Welfare/Childcare, Artificial Limb, Literacy etc., besides assisting the community liberally in social and philanthropic causes.Per capita expenditure on medical is Rs. 5057.05 at present.Total expenditure in medical was Rs.62.84 crores for year 2008-09.
    

• Integrated Rehabilitation and Resettlement of Project Affected Persons

  • Besides undertaking extensive community development work, SECL has also ensured comprehensive socioeconomic rehabilitation and resettlement of all project affected persons. This comprises, besides economic amelioration, construction of rehabilitation villages with housing, water supply, roads, street lighting, school, recreation centre, playground etc.

  • In year 2006-07,  169 land oustees were provided employment .

  • Thus, while the Company endeavors to achieve its commercial objectives, it takes community developments into consideration so that the industry and the community develop hand in hand.
